Lake Wales, FL

History of Lake Wales
Lake Wales has always been an ideal spot for fishing, hunting and farming, and in its earliest years, it was home to various native American tribes. However, settlers ame to the area in the 1870s, and many of them stayed due to its bounty of game and fish. These new settlers were mainly farmers who raised cattle and grew citrus.
One of these early settlers was a surveyor by the name of Sidney Wailes who named the town Lake Wailes. Over time, the spelling of Lake Wailes was changed to Lake Wales, but it is not clear as to why this occurred. When the Atlantic Coast Railroad ran tracks though Lake Wales, the city began to blossom. Today, Lake Wales is brimming with a large variety of businesses, fun attractions and beautiful Lake Wales homes.
